Team Building With Proviso Township Youth Services: Developing Leadership and Skills

On September 20th, the West Cook County Youth Club (WCCYC) partnered with Proviso Township Youth Services for an engaging and educational team-building exercise. Five of our club members had the opportunity to participate in this activity, which focused on the essential skills of collaboration, communication, and leadership. The task? Setting up a tent—an exercise that required careful planning, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Learning Through Hands-On Experience

With guidance from Proviso Township Youth Services staff members, the participants tackled the project with enthusiasm. They began by reviewing the instructions, identifying all necessary equipment and supplies, and assigning tasks among themselves to efficiently set up the tent. After successfully assembling the tent, they practiced taking it down and storing it properly, ensuring they understood the entire process.

Once the hands-on portion was completed, the group came together to review the project, discussing what went well and identifying areas for improvement. This reflection time was crucial for reinforcing what they had learned and understanding how they could apply these skills in future activities.

Preparing Future Leaders

This exercise marks the beginning of a larger initiative aimed at developing leadership within our club. The initial group of club members who participated will now take on the role of group leaders. They will each guide a new group of novice club members through the tent project as the second part of this team-building series, sharing their knowledge and fostering a sense of responsibility and confidence in their peers.

A Special Thank You

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Executive Director Lorenzo Webber and his dedicated staff at Proviso Township Youth Services for their partnership and support in making this event possible. Their expertise and commitment to youth development greatly enrich our programs. We look forward to working with them again in the near future and continuing to provide opportunities for our club members to grow, learn, and lead!
