Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford Graces WCCYC with an Inspiring Visit

Empowering the Next Generation: A Q&A Session with Senator Lightford

On a remarkable Friday, July 21st, the West Cook County Youth Club (WCCYC) opened its doors to an esteemed guest – Illinois Senate Majority Leader, Kimberly A. Lightford. The Senator’s visit wasn’t just a customary one; she was there to engage directly with our inquisitive young members.

Eighteen club members, aged 12-14, seized this unique opportunity by preparing in advance. Each of them delved into extensive research about Senator Lightford and crafted thought-provoking questions based on their findings. With a keen focus on fostering an open dialogue, Senator Lightford generously dedicated two hours, not just answering questions, but also inspiring these young minds. She emphasized the importance of community involvement and encouraged the members to actively shape their future.

The presence of such a prominent figure created quite a stir within the club, attracting even the youngest members. In an unplanned but delightful turn of events, a curious group of 7-11 year-olds gathered in the gym, eager to meet “the celebrity the older kids had lunch with”. Demonstrating the true qualities of a seasoned politician, Senator Lightford warmly engaged with these young enthusiasts, fielding their spontaneous questions with grace and patience.

At WCCYC, we believe in creating platforms for our members to learn from real-world leaders and experiences. Senator Lightford’s visit epitomized this commitment. Her willingness to interact, answer questions, and challenge our members truly enriched their understanding of community engagement and leadership.

On behalf of all members and staff of the West Cook County Youth Club, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Senator Kimberly A. Lightford. Her generosity in sharing her time and insights has left an indelible mark, providing our members with an unforgettable experience. We remain hopeful that such interactions will continue to inspire our youth to become responsible, engaged, and proactive members of society.
